Lee’s not coping
well with life on the wing. Having deliberately
scalded his hands, he begs Nick to let him back
on drug-free. Nick refuses.
Instead he gets a new padmate, Lucas, just transferred
from a young offender’s institution. He’s
an immature YO, whose greatest achievement so far
is featuring on Police, Camera, Action. The inmates
take advantage - playing the usual tricks.
There’s an infestation of cockroaches in the
prison kitchen.
Shiel is still top dog on D wing, with Crop Kid as
his flunkie - Lee is their current victim and they’re
working on the new boy too. Shiel’s got a Playstation
in his pad and it’s the fast way to Lucas’ heart
- they can use him to wind Lee up and Shiel wants
him as his rent boy.
Alone with Shiel, the situation becomes clear to
Lucas and he’s terrified at the situation he’s
allowed himself to get into. Lee intervenes by going
to talk to Shiel, but there’s no way he’s
going to give up all his hard work on the boy. In
order to protect Lucas, Lee takes on the role himself.
It’s a series of humiliating tasks - cleaning
Shiel’s trainers, tidying his pad... wiping
his arse.
Shiel tells Lucas that he was just testing him -
making sure he’s hard enough to do a job with
him on the inside. Having revealed that Tufty was
his previous rent boy, Lucas beats Tufty up for having
been such a pussy. Lucas is once again taken in and
returns to Shiel’s cell.
Fortunately Ryan finds him before any damage is done.
At lunch, Ryan gets the chance to slip Lee a blade.
He refuses but goes to Shiel’s cell where Shiel
pulls a blade on him. Lee talks him out of it by
telling him what it’s like to live with the
fact that you’ve killed a man.
Steddon gives Lucas a talking to - trying to convince
him that Shiel’s a loser. He’s only spent
three and a half years on the outside.
Nick gives Lee a set of keys which will get him as
far as the main gate. He refuses. He goes to talk
to Shiel. Turns out that his wife left him ages ago
and took up with a taxi driver and turned his kids
against him. Lee tells him they’re probably
running scared.
In the morning, Shiel offers Lee a deal to keep his
mouth shut - 20% of everything he gets. Once again
Lee refuses - now he’s got the power and Shiel
has no choice but to let go of ‘his wing’.
Rollie Man’s got to the end of his sentence
- he’s leaving and Lee’s lost his guardian
angel. He hands Lee a tobacco tin containing two
cockroaches which Lee sets free in the kitchen.
