SERIES 1 - EPISODE 6

MISSING YOU ALREADY

Father Mac tells Peter he must leave St Joseph's to return to England, implying that the locals won't miss him. Peter tells Assumpta he is being sent home and she feigns unconcern, but passes the information on to her regular customers.

A festival is to be held in town and Quigley has planned a publicans' race through town carrying trays of stout and, a nasty surprise for Assumpta, he is planning to open his own temporary bar for the three-day festival.

Assumpta leaves her almost-empty bar to go to Quigley's which is jumping, and she is upset when her regulars follow her in. She goes to St Joseph's to think and Peter leaves her to it. By the time he gets back to the church Assumpta has left and vandals have broken one of its windows. Angrily he goes to Fitzgerald's and is distressed to discover she has been hurt by the stone which broke the window. He carefully dresses the wound for her.

Quigley comes into Fitzgerald's and Assumpta starts arguing with him. Shortly afterwards he issues a challenge to Assumpta to join him in the publicans' race, the winner to keep their bar open for the duration of the festival, the loser to close. She accepts the challenge.

Niamh and Ambrose's wedding, finally takes place... and a clipboard is passed along the aisles, being busily signed.

As soon as the ceremony is over, Quigley and Assumpta have their race and she wins, thanks to Peter's help. Quigley doesn't care. He tells Peter that Ambrose has closed his bar down anyway for breach of fire regulations, but Peter has the last laugh when he demonstrates that the glasses on Assumpta's tray had been struck down.

Assumpta shows Peter the petition demanding that he should stay on at St Joseph's and walks off as he looks to see if her signature is on it.
