Quigley has lived in Ballyk most of his life, apart from a sojourn in Dublin, where he took a business studies course, and a period working in the UK where he made money, which he brought back to Ireland to start building the 'empire'.
Widowed in 1990, he misses a woman's company and can be an engaging flirt. A brief flirtation with his housekeeper Nora ended abruptly when he realised that it was marriage she was after.
He adores his only daughter, Niamh, and his grandson Kieran. When Niamh remarried and left with Dillon, it was hard for him to see them go.
Quigley loves to be at the heart of Ballyk. He is an active member of the Community Council, Chambers of Commerce and member of the school board. He loves money and loves making money.
He can be unscrupulous, in the past he has fiddled his books, hidden vast amounts of money in his house and even 'bugged' the confessional box to find out who had won the lottery. Quigley is also not beyond corrupting a Gard if it suits his purpose although with Frankie he has realised he will have to watch his back.
He has crawled back from the edge of bankruptcy, with the help of his daughter Niamh. During this time he managed to hide his humiliation from the village.
Throughout his business years he has always employed Liam and Donal, to whom he can often be ruthless.
Quigley is not a fervent believer but keeps links with the church. He understands the power it has within Ballyk and he has a kindred spirit in Fr Mac. Whatever his faults he loves the village more than most.
