"Miles, Anna, Milly, Egg
and Warren are a long way from the City types of the 80s.
They may be highly trained young professionals, but they
don't drive flash cars or live in penthouses because it's
a harder world now and their priorities are different,"
says series producer Jane Fallon, whose recent credits include
script-editing and producing Eastenders.
The search to find the right
actors for the main parts was thorough and exhaustive. "We
met literally hundreds of people as we were keen to use
relative unknowns who would bring as much of themselves
as possible to the roles. Of the final five, there was some
we knew instantly were right, while others took us by surprise
and overturned our preconceived ideas of how the characters
should look."
Acknowledging that the series
contains a fair amount of swearing and nudity, Jane adds:
"The language is real and there's quite a lot of talk about
sex because it's something people in their 20s naturally
discuss. Amy's scripts don't balk at realities."
