Episode summary
It's seven days later, and at the
weekly lads' meeting only four turn up. Des is at work but
desperately trying to get hold of Dwight. The tension in the
group is palpable, although Jason, still king, is impervious.
After a boozy supper with a colleague
and his newly pregnant wife Mac and Katie once more discuss
their position. Katie suggests they try IVF or even a donor.
Mac, his ego wounded, rejects it all.
At work Mac sees Alice at the hospital.
It is all very awkward and she is putting a brave face on
it all. Unbeknownst to Mac, Jamie has got a fixation with
Alice and is waiting for her outside the hospital. When she
emerges Jamie accosts her in the street, trying to talk away
what happened and ask her out. Alice rejects him.
Mac is hauled before his boss and
suspended pending a tribunal into his stealing of the Ketamine.
He tries to see Alice but she has moved to another hospital.
He goes to Jason, worried about what else will come out, but
as usual Jason is only interested in himself, suggesting that
for Alice it will be her secret. All women have secrets.
Mac goes to Alice's address and finds
she lives at home with her mother. He is faced with a room
of childhood photographs of Alice, which serve to remind him
of her innocence. Distraught and alone she refuses to see
him.
The five meet up to play football
but Jason is lining up an outing to the hardest, darkest pubs
and clubs in London. Against his wishes they decide to play
football. The frictions in the group are clear during the
game until a flashpoint occurs and Des goes after Jason. The
ensuing outburst leaves the ref. and opposition bemused. In
the dressing room Jason is taunting Des and Dwight with accusations
of being gay, because they didn't approach Alice. This is
news to both Mac and Jamie.
Mac is still terrified about what
Alice might say, when Jamie lets slip he has seen her. Mac
is furious but Jason can't see the problem. Mac quits the
team and storms out. Jason redirects his anger on Dwight,
he's not impressed and refuses to react. He sees himself as
a bigger man than that.
Having lost his team Jason rejects
Jamie and goes back to the club. Gemma who has found out the
extent of his scams and drug peddling delivers an ultimatum.
Jason however has a thing about Gemma and confronts her in
the club. Despite the animosity they end up having sex. Jason
for once is more into it than his partner. Jamie meanwhile
has returned to the sex club. His experience this time is
totally different. Unable to perform, one of the girls ridicules
him and he reacts violently. Three bouncers arrive, beat him
up and leave him in the street.
On the day of the tribunal, Mac is
still telling Katie his nerves relate to the interview for
the post of registrar. After she leaves, Jamie turns up demanding
they go to the sex club and sort out the bouncers. Mac fires
him, tells him to get out of his house, Jamie loses it completely
and starts to smash up the work he has done.
Jason, who has completely misread
the situation with Gemma, takes his daughter Stef to the club
to ask if she would like to go to a concert with them. Gemma
politely refuses. Jason can't understand that Gemma still
wants to be with her boyfriend Declan after what happened.
Gemma is amused by his stupidity. Jason decides to take his
revenge by describing graphically to Declan what happened
thus provoking a fight. He beats Declan to a pulp, loses his
job, loses everything.
Alice fails to turn up at the tribunal,
and on the instruction of a colleague Mac puts his own spin
on the proceedings. He admits he was in the dispensary and
was involved with a nurse but that it had got out of hand.
He claims her motive for reporting him was probably jealousy.
Found not guilty, he is triumphant. But his boss tells him
he has been transferred and promotion is out of the question.
Des finally confronts Lyn about her
affair. Lyn declares that she needs a stronger man. Des accuses
her of turning him into a woman. Lyn, decides to leave but
Des, with an implied force, tells her she is going nowhere.
Jamie is resorting to porn more and
more and arrives home to find a note from Louise saying she
is going away. He goes to her place of work and implores her
to come home. She can no longer cope with him not relating
to her. Jamie again misreads the situation and loses control.
Katie has finally become pregnant.
Just as Mac is coming to terms with that he receives a photograph
of the night with Alice. Des confirms it is a still from a
video. They go to Jason's flat to find out where it came from.
Jason can't see what all the fuss is about. All their past
resentments come to the surface and Jason lets slip that he
once slept with Katie. They all go to Jamie's flat assuming
that he turned on the bedside camera. Jamie has attempted
suicide but they get him to the hospital in time.
Mac is still looking for the video,
but on his arrival home finds out that Jamie has delivered
one which Katie is about to watch. It seems like an innocuous
record of the team playing football. After Katie and Mac go
to bed for a reconciliation we see that this is in fact the
video of the rape with Mac, Jason and Jamie very much to the
fore.
