The Cops follows
the working lives of the PC's of Stanton police station in the
North West of England.
From young rookie Mel having to leave her clubbing lifestyle
behind to old-timer Roy who feels the scale has gone soft. We
see how poverty and desperation on the streets and estates challenges
our the Stanton squad's black and white view of the world.
As the series grows to a climax the death of Brian Skillet in
custody provokes a violent confrontation in which there are
no winners.

As drugs and violence
escalates on the estate our Coppers are split between community
policing and response.
Although Mel enters community policing with the best of intentions
she realises that Roy's old fashioned working practices are
equally if not more effective than her own attempts to gain
the estates trust. However Roy's methods are found equally suspect
when he realises he can't have things all his own way at home
or at work.

Cops returns for
a third series of three special two-part stories starting on
September 18 and 19. We pick up the morning after the party
to celebrate Natalie's promotion to sergeant. Natalie wakes
up in a potentially embarrassing position, while Roy has gone
without sleep with his wife critical in hospital and his career
in tatters.
Meanwhile, station loose cannon Dean finally comes face to face
with the harsh reality of his aggressive attitude to his job,
and disillusioned Mel has to decide whether to return to face
the consequences of her sudden dash to Ibiza.
New recruits to the team are eager young probationer Karen and
cynical ex-footballer John, who has a tough time coming to terms
with the unconventional approach to police work in Stanton.
