  Commentary:
'Jaz Shundara sometimes describes himself as the Scale's "pet Paki pig". But the problems of being a rare Asian recruit in Stanton start at home.'

Jaz interview:

'It was difficult at first. My dad wanted me to go into the business, but it's not for me really. He gets a lot of stick about me being in the Force, which is a shame. You wouldn't have thought in this day and age that me being a police officer would cause him problems. Now and again people say to him you know, why's your son doing that? Because they've not had good dealings with the police.'

'Jaz interview:

'Asian officers? I think they've had a real bad time of it. It's a lot to take on, if you're getting stick at work, and you're getting it from the public… (sub) But aggression -I haven't had to resort to that yet. But I wouldn't stand for it.'

'I drive a nice Mazda MX3 - very nice. It does like nought to sixty in 5.5 seconds. It's a bit of a drinker though. But it's beautiful. I worked very hard for that. I'm very proud of it…I got a good deal, with all the extras. Stereo cassette. Beautiful… I wouldn't mind working up to a nice Beamer. Convertible. 325. They're sweet. With a boomer system, because I want to share my music.'

There's summat about the uniform - women are attracted to it. But you've got to know - you can't abuse your position. So you've got to be careful. And with a car like that - a nice sport's car - women are attracted to it. I would never abuse that. You believe me, don't you?'
