Danny Rylands
interview:
Timecode: 15:03:09
'It's certainly a golden rule in this job: you never have the
same day twice. You never have the same shift twice. You never
meet the same people. And I like the unpredictability of it….
My ambition is to be happy.'
Commentary:
'Danny Rylands is known amongst his fellow officers for his
bluff enthusiasm and hedonistic appetite for life'.
Danny interview:
Timecode: 05:04:40
'I am going out tonight. I've got friends coming up from London
so I'm going to have a busy weekend. For which I've managed
to wangle some early shifts. Which means I'm going to be burning
the candle at both ends. But you've got to be in it to win it.'

a girlfriend.
'Danny interview:
Timecode: 05:08:19
'I'm single at the moment, but searching. Some of the lads may
regard me as a ladies man. Which is probably justified to some
extent. But it's only because I haven't found the right one.
And when I do, there'll be a change of priority there I suppose.
It can be a bit of a meat market'.
Timecode: 05:09:56
'I don't just fancy all women. But I don't constrain myself
to say I'm a boobs man, or I'm an arse man or I'm a legs man.'

Commentary:
'But Danny finds the demands of the job he loves conflict with
a serious personal life.'
Danny interview:
Timecode: 05:11:00
'The problem with this job is I like the unpredictability of
it, personally. But partners have problems with it - with the
hours. They have problems with the fact that I'm going out of
the door on a Saturday night to start the night shift. And they're
not sure if I'm going to come back again. Neither do I.'

Commentary:
'And it isn't just the unpredictability that's thwarted Danny's
attempts to "get serious" about a woman.'
Danny interview:
Timecode: 05:13:13
'Certain women like uniforms. Maybe what they represent. But
then you have to realize that some times it's the uniform that
they like and not necessarily the man.'

Danny slow dancing with girl in blue and silver. |
|
Commentary:
'Danny sometimes comes across as a lightweight. But he's a popular
member of the Scale trusted always to be there for his comrades.
His frivolity conceals a deeper understanding of his job.'
Danny interview:
Timecode: 05:19:17
'I enjoy life as much as I can. Unpredictable. It's a job that
puts you in the front line. There's an argument to say that
to truly enjoy life you have to experience death. And for every
"up" there's a "down". So that's what I do at the moment. Keep
fit, get out and about, and enjoy my career whilst it's there.'
