Ballykissangel's
new priest is not everything the community expected. Father
Peter Clifford is English, looks about twelve years old and
isn't afraid to confront his superiors if the need arises. Father
Clifford's biggest challenge, however, is winning over the fiesty,
atheist, bar owner, Assumpta Fitzgerald.
|
|
Assumpta begins
to warm to Peter when he gets cast as her love interest in the
village play, but there's a rival for her affections. Enda Sullivan
is a small-time musician who Niamh thinks would be a great boyfriend
for Assumpta. Unfortunately she has other ideas. Kathleen finds
out what a difference community spirit can make when a fire
starts in her house.

Local entrepreneur,
Brian Quigley is getting dangerously low on funds but he always
has an idea or two up his sleeves. A drunken night of passion
has lasting consequences for Brendan and Siobhan. Peter is forced
to make a choice between his feelings and his work. It's a situation
he can't live with, but his change of heart may have come too
late.

There are new arrivals
all round as the pub gets a new owner, the town gets an new
priest and Siobhan and Brendan get a new baby. Father Aidan
O'Connell has come straight out of the monastery and his sister
Orla is just back from her travels. While Aidan sets about impressing
his congregation by performing a miracle, Orla helps Brian with
his latest business venture - a golf club.

The disintegration
of Ambrose and Niamh's marriage ultimately leads to heartbreak
and a fallen hero. She finds it hard to come to terms with the
circumstances and leaves the town for a while. When the sale
of Fitzgerald's falls through, the pub is inadvertently rented
to one of Brian's old adversaries - Paul Dooley - and his wife
Oonagh.

Series 6 introduces
several new characters, including Australian priest Father Vincent
Sheahan, race horse trainer Avril Burke and garage owner Edso
Dowling. The Dooley clan are up their usual tricks with Dermot
in particular causing trouble. Series 6 also sees the return
of the show's creator, Kieran Prendiville, to the writing team. |
