Romola Garai
At just eighteen, the fresh-faced Romola Garai is the youngest
member of the Attachments team, cast as the na¥ve work experience
placement Zoe. As the official office dogsbody and butt of
many jokes, the character of Zoe was an enjoyable challenge
for Romola as she is forced to adapt to her new environment
very quickly.
"Things happen to Zoe which make her grow up a lot and obviously
she's seventeen, she's changing quite a bit." Romola comments.
"I think the things that happen to her are quite important
not just because emotionally she's going to grow up, but also
she's going to become more mature outwardly."
Although Romola has performed in many plays in school and
used to sing in a jazz band, Attachments is the second outing
for her as a professional actor. While studying her A Levels,
a casting agent scouting at her school for young girls, chose
Romola to play a young version of Judi Dench in the BBC film
"Last Of The Blonde Bombshells."
Although Romola's long term ambitions lie in directing and
writing for the theatre, she finds acting very rewarding and
cherished her time on the Attachments set.
"Yeah, it's great fun. It's really amazing you know... it's
so different from my first job. It's a much bigger part and
also, it's not like making a movie where you can spend a day
doing two minute's footage." She assesses, "It's a much higher
turnover of work you've got to get through, and it's harder
work in that respect I think, but it's great summer job."
Romola recently starred alongside Michelle Collins in the
TV drama 'Perfect'.
