ZOE - Welwyn Wannabie
Zoe is the face of innocence around the office. She's desperately
excited about her new job in London and the chance to move
out of her parent's home in Welwyn Garden City. She commutes
every day, but if she's made permanent aims to find a flat
to share.
Zoe isn't stupid: she just isn't very sharp. She managed to
scrape a few GCSE's and one A Level but never wants to see
a textbook again. She wants to get out there, earn some money,
make something of herself. That she's offered a work experience
post at a Web company is the icing on the cake. She's heard
that New Media is 'the new Wild West'.
Unfortunately, enthusiasm can't compensate for her lack of
guile. Zoe's almost entirely front free and has a 'talent'
for talking too much and asking too many questions. She's
also out of place in an environment peopled by cynics and
the streetwise. At best she is considered sweet, at worst,
hopelessly incompetent.
Zoe can't stay this green forever. After a while she realises
that making tea, typing letters and being the office dogsbody
is a bit like school. Although initially too naive to notice
that she's a source of mirth, when she wises up, it hurts.
A quiet painful sense of betrayal and humiliation soon changes
to affront. The worm starts to turn.
