ANDREW SACHS

"I thought it would be a soft option," Andrew Sachs admits when asked why he took up acting. "Make a lot of money, have a swimming pool in Hollywood and a pink Cadillac. Very nice, that's what I'll do... Even dogs become film stars. I thought this has got to be a cushy number. I was a little bit mistaken."

Although has played many roles in his career, in many people's heart he will always be Manuel, the much-abused Italian waiter in Fawlty Towers, a role Andrew has a great affection for.

"It's opened a lot of doors for me. It's closed a few, I dare say. Because after Fawlty Towers I got a lot of offers to play, rather imaginatively, Italian waiters."

His character, Murray in Attachments is an embittered one. "The thing is, that he's disappointed himself, really. That he hasn't done as well in business, and in life with marriage as he'd hoped."

Murray's relationship with Jake is especially strained. Jake doesn't know how proud his Dad is of him. "It's a difficult relationship so that, in the end, when he goes to visit his father he does it as more of a duty than a pleasure."

Next up for Andrew is a theatre tour around the country entitled, Fawlty Years On.
