FRAN
- Desperately Single

Fran met Luce at school and they've been best friends ever since. She split from her long-term boyfriend, Andrew, six months ago. Tired of paying the exorbitant rent on their flat, she eventually moved into Mike and Luce's spare room. She often talks of moving out, but can't yet face living alone.

Fran's predicament encapsulates the rough end of being thirty. She's a successful Public Relations Consultant, but has been in her job for eight years and has hit a glass ceiling. Where Luce got out, she remains stuck. She's bored and frustrated, but doesn't know what else to do or how to get out.

Andrew, her ex, was self-obsessed. Staying with him grew into habit more than desire; she preferred to be in a crap relationship than all alone. Andrew eventually left her for a work colleague. His timing was a little off, as a few months earlier they'd started to discuss marriage. She was initially hurt by the split, but now feels over it. A few flings later, Fran is still single.

Fran drinks too much and shops for England, burying her loneliness in alcohol and consumption. She thinks she is boring but in actuality her disarming honesty about her predicament can be endearing.
