I haven't watched any DVDs since I finished Series 3. During my downtime I've piddled on this forum and I'm reading Persuasion. So, it really is time I send my season 3 DVDs back to Netflix. What should I get? I'm looking at my long Netflix Queue and nothing seems good enough. I'm asking for post-series 3 picks. Edit: Besides series 4--i'm not ready to jump right in. Toothpick, check out the "What are you watching?" thread here, because there are lots of good recommendations: http://www.world-productions.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001159.html IP: Logged |

I don't think I ever want to watch the series after 1-3; but that will probably be cutting my nose off to spite my face won't it? IP: Logged |

i've said it before, i'll say it again--seasons 4-6 are pretty darn good. maybe it would help to think of them as a show other than ballyk... sure, i missed peter and assumpta a lot, but i still enjoyed the episodes. timber, have you seen "monarch of the glen"? it's not as well written, it's a bit obvious, but it's a lot of fun and the scenery is gorgeous and there's a whole love-gone-awry theme that goes on and on. aesop has recommended "hamish macbeth," which is also set in scotland; it stars robert carlysle of "the full monty" fame. i liked it, too, but i have to confess i only understood about 1/3 of the dialogue. that scottish burr got hard for me to follow. closed captioning would help. also, if you're reading "persuasion," you might enjoy the BBC movie version. i think they did two, so be sure to get the one with amanda root and ciaran hinds. it's the most romantic movie i've ever seen. every january, when the Norwegian goes ice-fishing with his buddies, i dust off "persuasion" and watch it again. he had quite the wardrobe. thanks all. irish, i actually watched MOTG before BKA. I thought it was really good because its light and funny. I think I will put that version of Persuasion on my list. I do plan on watching BKA series 4-6, but I will wait awhile, so I can think of it as an entirely different series. IP: Logged |

duh! you said monarch of the glen was where you got your name. so were you rooting for the blond curly headed socialist, or the house maid? (i forget their names.) for me it was the blond smart one all the way....

Lexie is the housekeeper and Katrina is the curly haired socialist. I'm a Lexie fan. I was about ready for Katrina to leave by the time she did. She never seemed to get the fact that Archie was a good man. Thats why I like Assumpta, she has that rebellious independence that they were trying to establish in Katrina, but A also knew that Peter was a good man. Rona, 'a bit of a dish' isn't he? LOL, irish I always thought the pictures on those CD covers never looked like him in the series. I don't think he is very photogenic. IP: Logged |

not to turn this into a monarch forum, but ... lexie was always so trashy looking. and she was *so* stand-by-your-man that she made me roll my eyes. katrina kept archie grounded in reality. plus she was smart, had her own life, and, most important of all, had naturally curly hair.

i think there really are two camps on this. Your right about Lexie's clothes, but she cleans up in Series 4. How far into the series have you gotten? Duncan is actually one of my favorites. Oh, and I am fighting the temptation to watch series 3 again while I eat lunch. If I start it, I'm going to want to watch the whole thing. I need go put those things in the mail now. IP: Logged |

we watched through, i think, the wedding of lexie and archie. man, all those two did was fight. i loved duncan, too. that kilt and doc marten boot combination was quite stylish. but i think we liked Hector the best. IP: Logged |

Oh, Irish, your Jesse Ventura "3-D" pic cracked me up. That's right, Minnesota it was. I can some similarity between A. MacKenzie and someone's governor; however, the differences make one handsome and the other more average. No offense! And on the Lexie vs. Katrina front, I was more for Katrina as well. Seemed more serious, somehow, the feelings between Katrina and Archie than Lexie and him. IP: Logged |

toothpicks if you want to stay on the priest theme the thorn birds is good i know its old but i love it IP: Logged |

thanks ella, i saw the thornbirds several years ago. I remember liking it, but Richard Chamberlin's character is less likable than Peter. If I remember correctly, wasn't he ambitious? Peter is my favorite star-crossed lover/Priest. I started watching highlights of BKA Series 3 last night, but I AM putting them in the mail today. IP: Logged |

To make a connection, I thought Peter looked like Al Gore in The Reckoning when he smiled at Assumpta after she says, "Alright, so the job's yours." [/B][/QUOTE] My goodness, did Al Gore invent Ballykay too? IP: Logged |

Hello GatorGal, This is way off topic but... I just graduated from UGA. I've been rooting for you guys (except during our game, of course). My husband says that its high treason for Georgia fans to root for Florida, but I want an SEC team to go to the national championship. I hope this is your year. "Even the water boys in the SEC can run." --Spurrier And, I know, I know, but its a rebuilding year for the dawgs. Back on topic (?), How does Al Gore even enter your mind while you are watching BKA? Ah… A Peter and Assumpta kiss is what we are missing. I’m really going to butcher this quote but I think it’s from Paris When It Sizzles. The end of a romantic movie is being described. It goes something like…”two giant heads come together for one popcorn-popping, theatre seat filling …kiss. Fade out.” I’ve always thought that is the best way for a movie to end. If we had a P&A kiss, that is where I would stop watching my BallyK DVDs. IP: Logged |

I don't think seeing P&A kiss is anymore creepy than some of the other things that occured...like the very end of the polar bear scene for example. And as far as expectations...'a kiss is still a kiss.' It just has to occur. But... alas, I was overruled by the writers. I have a question for those of you who have seen ST in other roles. Peter has some odd mannerisms that convery his general up-tightness (how he moves his jaw, clinching his fists, licking his lips ('when he thinks about sex'--what you write lives on the forum forever IP: Logged |

once there's a kiss, there's nothing left to imagine. it breaks the tension. it's bound to be anticlimactic. leaving you longing for it is much more romantic. and i agree with gaelic that having a priest smooch a woman would be problematic. the importance of peter's priestiness (sorry--i'm channeling stephen colbert and truthiness here) cannot be overstated.
