Chuck- my husband loved your animations. Thank you.

As for me, I seldom watch tv except for House on Monday, Hell's Kitchen on Tuesday, and Ghost Hunters on Wednesday. The rest of my live is telly-free!

Here is an excellent description of the 1937 French film The Grand Illusion:

I'm thinking that many of us will have the Olympics on our tvs for a few days. I enjoy seeing and learning about modern China.

Busy, busy waking up at 5 in the morning to watch gymnastics live from Beijing! Our team is weaker this year, we may not get an olympic medal - for the first time in 30 years - but it's still thrilling to follow the competition.

I wish Stephen Tompkinson would do another movie. One that is as good as Brassed Off. I really can't afford to fly to see him in London for all the plays he does and Wild At Heart is good but I am dying to see him in something new. I need a Stephen Tompkinson fix.

I was under the impression that he was a 'TV' actor.

Look for "And a Nightingale Sang", "Lucky Jim" & "Oktober". Three great ST movies.

I've been watching the Olympics (swimming, and my dad likes beach volleyball - imagine that!); visiting my parents in FL, and watching more TV than I have in a year! Luckily, I brought my BallyK DVDs, so I pick an episode to watch each night before nodding off - last night watched "Changing Times." Can't get enough of series 1-3, and trying to cram in as many as I can before the fall semester gets up and running in a couple of weeks.

"Changing Times" is a wonderful episode. My favourite is series 2, though. Probably because it was the first one I saw and it made me love BallyK. "For One Night Only" has such great dialogues!

Yes, he does mostly tv but also does alot of plays and has done a few films, most notably Brassed Off with Ewan McGregor.

Something reminded me of an excellent Irish film starring Richard Harris and John Hurt called "The Field." It's very intense, very moving. I highly recommend it; you can see a trailer on imdb.com

I have been watching tapes of Detective Lewis starring Kevin Whately that I recorded off PBS a couple of months ago. I just saw the second of the series of three, and in it was an actor, playing Nicky Turnbull, "the first of the rock'n'roll hackers," whom I swore I had seen before. (The title of this episode was "Old School Ties" in the US; did it have a different title in the UK?)

Of course I had seen him; it was Owen Teale, who played Conor Devlin in Ballykissangel (Series Five). I'll never forget that ATV race he had with Orla! But, he got nowhere with her and departed.

Another thing I'll never forget -- Brendan Kearny and others on Devlin's fishing boat drinking Budweiser! For Guinness sake!

Last weekend we watched a fun British comedy film called "Kinky Boots." Great for a light-hearted evening.

Other than that, all I've watched for weeks are my Ballyk DVDs! (no joke; I basically never watch tv these days - good way to avoid the political onslaught). Last night I watched episode 2 of series 1 - the "Jenny" episode.

I liked Kinky Boots but I loved the Jenny episode. It was very thoughtful of Kieran Prendeville to show that Assumpta was not the only one who ached for Father Peter. He would of had women swooning in whatever town he was transferred to. Although, I was rooting for Father Peter and Assumpta to be together I really felt for Jenny. I really felt her pain.

My guess is that it would be somewhat common for women in the Roman Catholic Church to be attracted to the Priest if only for the fact that he was forbidden territory.

A person could be attracted, of course, without acting on her thoughts.

Perhaps Kathleen was very attracted to Father Mac, I personally think that she was. No one was more supportive of him.

On the other hand, she could have been very faithful to her belief and was serving her church as she felt was her duty.

Women can also feel an attraction to their physician. Of course an intelligent woman doesn't necessarily act on her feelings and
a physician has professional standards which prevents such unethical behaviour to escalate. The same also holds true for teachers and their students.

R.C. Priests in addition have vows of celibacy to uphold and of course are not permitted to marry.

I agree with what you are saying, aesop.

However, my thoughts were just for the limited circumstance as I had mentioned in my post.

Aesop, I finally caught up with the entire series of Brideshead Revisited -- and saw Niall Tobin's performance as the priest.
What a truly magnificent series this is -- I bought it for myself for Christmas.

I think that was a good decision to purchase the series. I find that each viewing gives greater insight and understanding of the characters as well as the message or theme of the entire series. The acting is absolutely first rate with outstanding performances by all.

BTW: There was a very good 25th anniversary retrospective done on Brideshead a few years ago. It gave some interesting details on the filming of the series.

I watched part 1 of "Tess" last night on our PBS station. I felt sorry for Tess; a true victim of circumstance.

They mention later in the show that it was a May Day festival.

Watching President Obama's inauguration... I would have loved to be American even for just a day, to feel this event from an American's perspective. Even so, it's a moment to be proud of and I really wish him to succeed.
