I'm watching "Reckless" with Francesca Annis and somebody. I rented it from Net Flix, and It's been great fun so far.

i liked it OK, but, as with the vicar of dibley, i don't think i'm going to keep going with the disks. i didn't love it. i just haven't found another BBC show that is similar to the high standards set by ballykissangel.

I'm with you on this, Irish. I know that those who love it, love it. I just don't happen to be one.

No, As Time Goes By doesn't do it for me either. It always seems like a waste of Judi Dench's talent.

I just rented "As Time Goes By" because just like you I saw it mentioned so many times. Hoping to find something to watch besides BallyK over and over. Doesn't sound very hopeful.

Ah, that'll be the wonderful Robson Green - I've loved him ever since he was in Soldier Soldier (one of my other favourite dramas of the 90s).

He's also great as a very different character in 'Wire in the Blood', a very dark crime show from ITV/BBC America.

He was also in Grafters with a little-known actor called Stephen Tompkinson.

AND, just to bring it full circle again, there was a very good episode of Soldier Soldier where his wife was held hostage by none other than Mr James Nesbitt, aka Leo McGarvey.

There was a long time when I couldn't see James Nesbitt on my screen without booing!

I felt the same way about James Nesbitt until I saw him in "Cold Feet". I was then able to get past thinking of him as Leo.

we started watching "the constant gardener" last night. hope to finish it tonight.

i don't much care for that wife. and ralph fiennes (is that his name?) has made a career of looking tragic. but i like the movie anyway. it's holding my interest.

Thanks for identifying that actor - "somebody", indeed! (kidding, kidding). I've such a fondness for Robson Green's eyes. Loved him in the Touching Evil series. The episode where one of the main characters dies was one of the most shocking things I've ever watched on TV - didn't see it coming at all. I'm being deliberately vague, in case anyone ends up seeing it. It's the one where the voice of Golum plays a shrink. Golum's voice has a name, it just escapes me at the moment.

we finished "the constant gardener." man, that movie just fell apart in the last half-hour. people confessing left and right (furtively). a convenient letter that laid out all the details, plus motive. man. it's like the writers lacked enough sophistication to bring it to a subtle and satisfying conclusion like, say, alfred hitchcock...

Agree re the eyes, agree re Touching Evil, and agree re the shocking death, if it's the one I'm thinking of. Did it involve a car?

Hmm, I must be thinking of a different death tnen - I haven't seen it for years. And actually, the person I was thinking of wasn't really a main character, just the girlfriend of one.

Then we're thinking of different episodes. I ended up looking on imdb, and it's Touching Evil III that I'm referring to. The unexpected death was a man (but not our Robson, thank heavens!)

Ah, I think I remember now. The one I'm thinking of was TE II.

Backbeat is a great film, if you’re like me and a sucker for a tragic love story. It’s about Stuart Sutcliffe, John Lennon’s best friend from art school who was in the Beatles for a while before he fell in love with a woman in Germany.

It’s not exactly as feel-good as BK, but there’s some lovely moments in it.

I have "The Departed" which received quite a few academy award nominations, but I have not had time to watch it with watching Series 5 and 1-3 over again. I understand it is quite violent.

Yessss! Robson is one of my Grade-A Brit actor crushes. Those eyes! That Geordie (since that is an inextricable part of every single description of him, semmingly) accent!

"Reckless" is sparklingly written, wonderfully acted and well worth the time to watch it all. My husband and I have watched it several times.

All of the other Robson shows mentioned here are great too, along with "Me and Mrs. Jones" from Masterpiece Theater. Yum. Speaking of, ST in "Lucky Jim" was charming fluff.

Hey, Javelin--wasn't James Nesbitt a bad guy in a "Touching Evil" ep, too? Or am I thinking about someone else?

Well, of course you like Mr Green - I already know you have great taste in tv shows

I don't remember James Nesbitt in Touching Evil, but according to the IMDB he was in it twice.
