. . . concerning Tina Kellegher and Owen Roe: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/afternoonplay.shtml

I was listening to radio 4 and I thought I recognised her voice! She and Owen Roe are in a series of radio plays, today's was Baldi:The Book Case.

(I'm back with my Honey again, well, I will be when she gets home from work!

Well, I'll never look at "Orla" quite the same way again! Hubby just *had* to go see Bulletproof Monk yesterday, and who should I see playing the villainess, granddaughter of the Nazi villain, but Victoria Smurfit! Ouch!
(btw, wait for the video/dvd, and rent, don't buy)

I rented the DVD of a lovely movie called "Evelyn" (to play on my new DVD player/new TV!) Aside from the chance to see Pierce Brosnan as a working class guy, there was Bosco Hogan, plus several other familiar faces, Mossy Phelan as a judge, others. This is very much worth seeing.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread, Camille. I had good intentions of posting to thank Brian (thank you, Brian!) for posting the link above. We listened to one of the Baldi plays, and my daughter recognized Tina Kellegher's voice immediately as that of Niamh. I also found a decent interview with Colin Farrell at that site - he sounded halfway human, and rather likeable. Not sure if that's still available there, or not.

As for Victoria Smurfit as a villainess, that's actually not so much of a stretch for my imagination. Thanks for the heads up - I think I'll pass on Bulletproof Monk!

Well, I am sure that the special effects will be far superior in both the new Matrix movies or in the next X-man movie, which I am nearly salivating to see! (Nightcrawler gets into this one!) I am saddened that Chow Yung Phat (sp?), who is actually a very good actor, keeps letting himself be typecast as a "kung-fu hero", and doesn't branch out into movies that do not involve completely unbelieveable martial arts! The movie is worth seeing when one doesn't have to pay theater prices for it, but since I've seen it in the theater, I won't be renting it on pay-per-view or buying the DVD, that's for sure!

Re Chow Yun-Fat: I just happened to see The King and I (the re-make with him and Jodie Foster) on TV last night, and I can't recall a single scene involving his martial arts ability.

Congratulations on your new DVD/TV, Thea! All ready for the rumored release of BallyK on DVD (to say nothing of the next round of digital BallyK on your PBS station)?

Thanks for the link to Radio 4, Brian. I listened to a few of the radio plays and some of the live broadcasting.
Thanks for the movie recommendation Thea. Always nice to hear of a good movie to rent.

This may be old news to most of you, but Orla (? real life name?) is in the movie About a Boy with Hugh Grant. A good trivia question is to find the word 'Ballykissangel' in the film -- it DOES appear.

I was going to get that on pay per view, but I got called into work. I'm hoping to see it soon. If anyone can find the word Ballykissangel anywhere, it's me!!!!!!!

Just thought I'd mention that the guy we love to dislike, Colin Farrell, was named to People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People list. It goes on sale Friday if anyone cares. People Magazine calls him "Hollywood's bad boy."

I just saw "Brassed Off" on the TV, had seen it years before Ballyk, and had forgotten how good Stephen Tompkinson was! I loved this film then, and now.

From what I've seen in the hallways at the Abbey Theatre, the production of 'The Plough and the Stars' with Tina Kellegher, Owen Roe, and Marion O'Dwyer will be back on stage very soon...if it isn't on already.
I thought it was an excellent production myself.
As for Don 'Fr. Aiden' Wycherley...I nearly ran into him while going back stage. He just finished up with a revival of the very popular 'Eden'.

Nice to hear from you, Robyn!

When you get a chance, can you catch us up on what you've been doing while in Dublin? I've thought of you once or twice, wondering how it was going for you, 'over there'. Sounds like you are in your element!

Fr. Aiden, Sean, and Niamh were my favorites. I suppose that's because season 5 was the first one I saw (and taped) all the way through. Where, exactly, is he playing ? Are any of the cast in London these days? I would love to catch one or two of them in a production.

Hi Marci! I'm actually back from Dublin, at the family home in Nevada for one more week before I start my summer job in Rhode Island.

My experience in Dublin was amazing. It was really exciting to be in Ireland (since this was my first time) and Dublin was interesting, huge, small, fun, and scary all at once. Growing up in Montpelier, VT did nothing to prepare me for going to the city.

I was more or less adopted as an american cousin by my host family-- I was very lucky to be assigned to their home...my host family consisted of an artist, a part time clown, and two small boys. What a crew!

As for my experience at the Abbey....it was brilliant. I regret that I only spent a month working there. My primary work was as a tour guide, taking students and tourists around the theatre, explaining the production process and the colouful history of the Abbey. I only hope that some day I can walk on the stage as an actress rather than as a tour guide.

I really liked living in Ireland...I didn't feel like I needed to adjust to living there (except for living with two small boys in the house...I am the youngest child in my family and therefore was not prepared for the antics of the boys). It was a little overwhelming living in a city especially one so...condensed as Dublin. Everything felt as if it was piled over top everything else. I got used to it after a while.

I miss being there....it's been very strange trying to adjust back to American life...but I suppose I can always go back....My father is practically shoving an application to Trinity College into my hand .

Oh, Robyn, what I wouldn't have given for an experience like yours. I had my first baby two months after graduating college. I don't regret my children, but I do think that in my generation, some of the women missed having that period of "footloose and fancy-free" time that my daughter's generation has had, you included. How fortunate you were to be so involved with the Abbey and with a lovely host family. Keep pursuing your dream of acting. One of my former drama students was a member of the original Broadway cast of Rent, and he almost went to college to be an elementary school teacher because his family told him acting was too "iffy".

Cathy, I AM impressed! You must have sharp eyes to have spotted that. I was thinking maybe a sign on the side of a bus, or Victoria Smurf-it wearing a Ballyk tee - that sort of thing. I may even rent it again to see if I can see it. Shoot, I don't even remember Hugh Grant on the computer!

Cathy. I'm watching About a Boy Now. I've paused it on the bit where Hugh has his computer on but all I can see is http://www.supermodelswithseethrough. Then it goes off screen. Is there another bit of the film where he's on a computer. I've seen the film loads of times but I can only remember that bit. It's near the beginning where he's doing a voiceover about how days are units of time. (If that makes sense lol)
I can't believe I'm watching a film just to see a word lol. Luckily I love the film. I think it's so funny

Either they changed it for the American release (we ARE part Puritan still) or I somehow (with failing middle age eyesight), read that mess as "Ballykissangel." Now I have to rent it again and may be eating crow for the next few nights. I'll let you know.

I tried clicking on it, but AOL tells me there is no such website. It may be just like the 555 exchanges (used in telephone numbers in movies and TV shows) that don't exist.

One movie with Jim Carrey tried a real number, and it caused trouble all over the US.

An "I'm almost positive" sighting of James Nesbitt (Leo) , circa 1988 or 1989. Was watching "Campion", the "Look to the Lady" epsiode and there he (Probably!) was, in a tiny part as a gypsy who calms a horse.

(The first season of "Campion" just recently came out on dvd from Acorn Media, got it for my dad's birthday. Always good to buy people gifts you can enjoy also!)

Hey, JulieB, with you on the Margery Allingham books, finished "The Beckoning Lady" just last week, it was a recent Penguin UK printing. It takes place a good bit later than the stories that were made into the television programs.

(BTW, the first book on my fiction bookshelf is "Mystery Mile" by her, a 1930 Crime Club edition with a cool cover having the intriguing caption "He fled from Simister's deadly vengeance!". I read it some years back but am sure to have forgotten who did it by now! So many books to read, but so slow a reader am I!)
