I just read that "Bob the Builder: A Christmas to Remember" took am award for best animation at the Children's Bafta awards. Stephen Tomkinson is the voice of Bob's brother Tom.

Are you KIDDING me? My nephew loves Bob the Builder and I never knew the brother's voice was Stephen. I should have recognized it!

Yeah. And I was listening to Virgin Radio today (hooray for broadband!) and I swear I heard him on an ad for a GM car. I could be wrong. Probably am. But it sure sounded like him.

I suppose I'll have to go get the Bob the Builder DVD. No one has it for rent locally. I'll have to risk the taunts of my teenager to even bring it into the house!

Don't they have different people supplying the voices for what is seen in the US?
The voices sound very American to me.

That would be a bummer. But yeah, when we got the new "Robbie the Reindeer" DVD we had to go to the alternate sound track to get the UK voices. The listings that I could find for the US version only mention Elton John. There's a store in town that I think will let me preview it. No fun at all.

I remember seeing about Stephen been Bob's Brother and posting something about it in the Alumini news before the forum kept eating threads. But it was before it was made and I think TV Times said it was a film version but when a little boy at nursery brought the episode and I recognised the voice I realised that's what it meant. I think it was the first time I sat and watched a full episode lol.

Bob the Builder definitely has two voice casts, one for the U.S. and one for the U.K. An English friend and I were just discussing it the other day. Same with Clifford the Big Red Dog: In the U.S. his voice is done by (the late) John Ritter (at least on the videos we've got) and I don't know who does the voice in the U.K. but it sure ain't him.

I would love to hear the American version of Bob the Builder. Whenever I watch Bob the Builder I always think of him been a beer drinking ladies man prat becuae of men behaving Badly lol

I thought John Ritter was a great actor. I liked him in 8 simple Rules.
I'm not sure who does the UK version of Clifford but I'm sure one of the children will bring it into nursery at some point. It's cool working in a nursery because you get to wqatch all the kids programs without anyone asking why? lol

Does the US get Brum. The kids love that but I just laugh and cringe. If you've seen it you will know why.

Well, I've been listening to the same station again, and I haven't heard that ad. I just really caught the end of it as I was concentrating on pinning up a seam. That was also the last day I was on steroids. Well, if I'm going to hallucinate I can think of wors.

I found Oktober today! It's not supposed to be released until Tuesday, I thought. We went to a store that is not supposed to open until next week, but was having a "soft opening" today to train their employees. I guess that might explain why it was on the shelf.

Found a review of Dervla Kirwan's recently-released TV movie "A Tale of Two Wives" (a.k.a. "Double Bill") at:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/search/search_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1998800

(Shame they screwed up the photo caption and wrongly referred to Dervla as a British actress.)

I'm not sure I like the blonde hair...

On another note, did any UK-based forum members catch Dervla and Stephen Tompkinson's funny cameo as Assumpta and Peter on "Father Ted" on Channel 4 last night?

Anyway, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all loyal "Ballykissangel" fans.

Has the movie aired yet? Why do I always miss these things? I noticed that Father Ted is available here on DVD. I'm thinking I'd like to buy it for myself.

Our PBS station showed that the other night. Also, some PBS stations might be airing "Bernard and the Genie," in which Gary Whelan (Brendan) has a small role as a police detective. That program is a lot of fun. Lenny Henry is an absolute hoot as the genie.

BBC7 is running the comedy "Shelley" starring Stephen Tompkinson on Fridays. Both Real and Windows Media Player streams are available, and they run it three times. Check the web page and convert to your local time from there: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/comedy/index.shtml?Friday

I listened to it when it first came out. I enjoyed it.

I forgot to say I watched a progrma the other week called The Return and Donal had a small role in it. (it's 3.40am and I can't be bothered to find out his real name lol. I think it's Frankie or something like that)

I also saw War of the Buttons with a young Kevin (John Cleere) and Dervla was the narrator for about 10 lines
I think there was someone else in it but I can't remember. I need to go to sleep lol.

Does anybody know when Dervla's film is coming out in the UK. I'm dying to see it. The blonde hair is interesting. I think I like it.
Has anybody found out if she is pregnant or not. Somebody a few weeks back posted they saw it in a magazine. Just wondered if there had been anything else mentioned.

On UKTV here in New Zealand, the programme Dark Room ( think that's what's it's called) with Dervla Kirwan is being shown. I thought I'd watch it to see her in something different and I got such a fright to see her with no hair and scars on her head. It's amazing how actors throw themselves into a role and change their hair, accent etc and can play such different characters.

And did you see, Gordon Wycherley (Tina Kellegher's husband)was the location manager on Ballykissangel. I wonder whether they met on the set, or if he got the job because of his connection to her.

I read that she met him on set. Fr. Adian probably got his job because of her, though.
There is so little about her online, other than ballyk stuff. She must be a very private person.

hi flossie,

I don't know her precise birth date or anything, but I recall reading when Ballyk was still on in the UK that she was 5 yrs older than Dervla Kirwan (although their characters were meant to be the same age). So that would make her roughly 37 now, depending on when her birthday is.

BBC7 is airing another radio comedy starring Stephen Tompkinson. It's called "The Big Town All Stars." Runs on Thursdays. Get info and schedules here:

well, I can recommend Big Town All Stars - I really enjoyed it when it was on radio a few years back. Coincidentally it also features Darren Boyd, another ex-boyfriend of Dervla's (although she was still with ST and hadn't met DB yet when the show was made). It's a small world in TV/radio land! :-)

Hi Marilyn...
Got curious about your question. Try this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/

Hope it's what you want.

Have the following also from the days of Irish language lessons. Love to hear it but it is spoken way too fast for me to understand more than a word or two. Do love the music, tho...

ps: This should go on the other thread but it took me 3 tries to get this one done, so everyone please forgive? I live about an hour and a half from you, Marilyn, and can't wait for SPRING. My oldest son works on the highway dept. and says that one more storm and he'll have enough comp time to take half the summer off! You guys have been pounded...record January snowfall for the state. Keep warm!.....Judy

Will someone help me out here? I am in the central time zone, and I want to listen to some of the radio shows on the the before mentioned site. The show times are how many hours ahead of central? I know I should be able to figure this out, but I would really appreciate if someone will do my thinking for me on this one! I think my last brain cell is on the fritz! Thanks bunches!

I'm in the same time zone. It is six hours ahead of us. As I type this it is approaching 8.30 am CST, which makes it 2.30 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). And just to confuse the issue for some of us in the US, BBC lists their programs in 24 hour format. So that would be 14.30.

If you have a watch or handheld device that allows you to set a second time zone, simply set it for GMT and you can easily check the time in the UK.

Catherine Cusack was on Jonathan Creek on Saturday night as a nutter who kidnapped a dead body lol.
She has also been in Coronation Street on Granada+ the last few months but she's also turing out to be a nutter in that as well. I remember watching it the first time round when I was little.
