Thank you for that link; it was a pleasure to hear Dervla once again.
I rented a DVD called "Nora" (James Joyce and Nora) with Ewan McGregor and Susan Lynch (the woman in "Waking Ned Devine"); recognized two Ballyk actors, the actor who played Suellen, Donal's girlfriend, and who I've seen on stage in Playboy of the Western World, a really good actor. Also, a friend of Joyce's looked so familiar, couldn't place him for a while, then AHA! realized he was the younger of the two "revenue men". Always fun to spot those familiar faces.

I saw Dervla on Jonathan Ross's Show tonight. It was just a small extract from a show that Jack Dee was in. I think it was Dalziel and Pascoe though cause it's the only thing I can find all 3 actors in but it it was nice seeing her again on TV

If anybody is up at 1.30am tonight it's repeated on BBC1. It's only about a 5 second piece though so don't stay up for it

I saw the clip too. It's actually from the forthcoming political drama 'The Deputy' mentioned in the 'More Dervla news' thread.

I think she's been allowed to keep her Irish accent for the role despite the programme being about the UK government.

On another note, I assume all of you DK fans out there have been watching the third series of 'Goodnight Sweetheart' on UK Gold on Saturdays? Between you and me, I think she was right to leave this pretty feeble 'comedy'...

I saw Colin Farrell’s new film last week called Intermission (another new Farrell film! This is getting to be a bit much.) Anyway, this is absolutely brilliant. There are the usual few Ballyk alumni in it, most noticeably Owen Roe but it’s Colm Meaney who steals the show as the completely insane, Clannad loving, Garda detective. Do yourselves a favour and don’t read any spoilers about it. Just go and see – as soon as practically possible. Be warned, those who take offence at bad language and general bad behaviour won’t like it. I loved it though and I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a film so much. The soundtrack alone is fabulous. Wait until the very end to hear Farrell’s version of “I fought the law.” Who’d have guessed it? The boy can sing.

Has anyone else seen The Hard Word with Robert Taylor? I saw a trailer for it and it looked good, but then, trailers always do. Father Vinny certainly has changed – he’s a sleazy lawyer. It looked like an Australian version of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

It's been emotional. (Didn’t we used to have a film quote thread at some stage?)

What do you know, somebody posting about Robert Taylor, and it's not SwissMiss!! Hope she's feeling OK

We did indeed have a movie quote thread, and it was great fun. We were known to go for long stretches between questions and answers at times, though. I nominate Bronn to resurrect said thread. Any seconds?

Is that my cue? Haven't seen The Hard Word, don't know if it's been shown in Switzerland. I'll have to buy the video if it's ever released as such.

Bronn! Nice to see you again! Any chance of a continuation of "What Happened Next"?

Quick look around (am working late tonight and the boss is gone out so…yay! Internet!)

Awww… Swiss Miss, I’ll support you in the Robert Taylor fan-club. I’d hate to think you were left struggling alone

I’ll go see The Hard Word ASAP and report back. I hope it’s good as it’s on in my least favourite cinema in Dublin. The place is *full* of scangers. (And for anyone wondering what a scanger is, we’ll have to resurrect the scanger slang thread too… wotchableedinlukkinah anyone?)

I’ll resurrect the film thread Marcie, as soon as I can think of a good quote. Loads of mine the last time were got with an hour of me posting them up. You people were good!

As for the “What Happens Next” series, I promise I haven’t forgotten about it. someday, I will post more. But at the moment I’m snowed under with numerous projects, so it has to wait. Which is a shame, ‘cause I loved writing it.

Yeeek - boss back. Must fake work. Bye.

Count me in for the Robert Taylor fan club!
I feel like I am one of a very few who actually enjoyed series 6, thought it had some freshness to it. Let me know how the Hard Word is, Bronn. I've heard it is really good, but not for the easily offended. PS- it is really hard to find out new info about the man. Does anyone know anything new?

ldj, a lot of us liked series 6! As a stalwart lover of 1-3, I really liked very little of 4 and 5. With one or two exceptions, they were awful. Six had life in it, good characters and story lines, and then, BAM! it was gone.

Here's a brief article on Collin I found today - deals with his private life, not his work (hope that's okay):

Colin Farrell Confesses To Drugs and Drink Depression

Hollywood wildman Colin Farrell has confessed to taking a regular cocktail of drink and drugs that spiraled him into depression before he achieved fame. The Phone Booth hunk, renowned for his hard partying lifestyle, admitted to taking cocaine, ecstasy, speed and marijuana, as well as copious amounts of alcohol and cigarettes during a period in the mid-1990s. But the new father of baby James says he was left depressed by his over- indulgence and sought solace in a counselor. Colin tells British magazine Radio Times, "I ended up on a shrink's couch and he told me to write down how much I did in a week. Twenty E's, four grams of coke, six of speed, half an ounce of hash, three bottles of Jack Daniels, 12 bottles of red wine, 60 pints and 280 fags. He looked at me and said: 'No wonder you're depressed.'" Colin hit rock bottom in 1993 after he lost out on a place in Irish boyband Boyzone and spent a year in a line-dancing troupe. He continues, "I was a chancer and hustler, out of my t*ts on ecstasy for a year. There's footage of me in a red G-string advertising Christmas underwear. I did it because they paid an extra £10 - the cost of an E. I was going one way - down. I was self-destructive, still am."

He danced? I'd LOVE to see THAT!!!

For me... The quote of the day....

"He was just absolutely the most perfect creature on this earth!"

"And then what happened?"

"And then... he spoke."

I just finished watching the movie on the Oxygen channel, and enjoyed it very much, but I think that the "Bill" character got off too easy, they should have taken the money and never let on that they knew, and then spent months causing him agony by slowly dissolving the marriages bit by bit, no matter what he did! Revenge IS a dish best served cold!

A tale of two wives opinion : I don't really like Peter Gallagher or his acting. Thought this was beneath the capability of Dervla with a silly, predictable plot. Sorry if I offended anyone.

My hubby also thought the plot was too predictable, and while I agree it was, I admit I *enjoyed* watching the husband character get his comeuppence. Sort of like how I enjoyed so tremendously the "Cybil" episode in which Cybil and Maryanne get revenge on Maryanne's ex-hubby, the infamous "Dr. Dick", when they find out he's remarried someone 30+ years his junior. I may never actually *use* the "flaming bag of doggie doodoo" trick on anyone, but I can imagine the look on someone's face when they are really annoying me, and get a giggle out of the thought, anyway! And I have a significant advantage over Cybil and Maryanne, I have in-house production of the "ammunition", VBEG!

On the subject of Peter Gallagher, I actually
find him annoying and "smarmy", too, I don't know why. He always plays characters with infuriatingly superior smirks on their faces. He may be a perfectly nice guy in real life, but no matter how innocent or innocuous a character he plays in a movie, I find myself hating that character. In "The Tale of Two Wives", it was *really easy* to hate "Bill"!

I agree. Peter Gallagher should stay off the screen -- big or little. However, he really shines on the stage. I saw him in the revival of "Guys and Dolls" on Broadway and he was wonderful. Why don't people stick with their talent?

I watched a little of ATOTW, to see Dervla. She sounded very English to me. I had presumed that she spoke in her native accent in BK, and it wasn't too different from North American. Would Bronn or someone care to comment on this?

At this very moment, "Vertical Limit" starring Robert Taylor is showing on Pro7 (Germany). I also got the following note from Deborah Dunford (anyone remember last year's CFT awards?):

> Guerin....however you spell that.

This may sound really convoluted, but I just rented "Bend it Like Beckham" and it's the first English movie I've seen in a long time where I didn't recognize even one Ballyk alumni. Could I have missed someone? I loved the movie, though. Also, I saw that the director of "About a Boy" and "Four Weddings..." has a new movie coming out here at Christmas. The director usually uses lots of alums from the cast, so let's be on the lookout.

I don't want to turn Brian's alumni thread into a movie discussion thread, but has anyone seen "Under the Tuscan Sun?" It could be subtitled, "Ballykissangel Goes to Italy." The characters are eccentric, the scenery is gorgeous, and there are a hundred levels of meaning in every line. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and make it a night out. I went with my friends, and even though we had had dinner before, we had to go out for coffee after because no one wanted to go home without a discussion.

Just finished watching "Vertical Limit." This was kind of like watching a car wreck - it was horrid, but I couldn't tear myself away. I kept waiting for the next bad movie cliche' to pop up.

I did enjoy watching Robert Taylor, though! ;-) (And maybe Alexander Siddig, though I thought his accent was a bit OTT.)

I keep meaning to rent "Bend it Like Beckam." Maybe I'll do that this week. And "Love Acutally" looks like fun as well.

BA (or anyone else who has seen Oktober): I found a copy of the book and man, what a read! I can see him in that role. The only thing I want to know - without giving anything away if possible - is if the ending of the miniseries is literally like it was on the last page of the book.
