Brian, that is too cool! I just tonight finished rereading "The Fear Sign."

But as much as I love the Campion novels, I think my ultimate comfor book is "Busman's Honeymoon," by Dorothy L. Sayers.

I think I’ve found what must be the ultimate Ballykissangel reunion of actors I ever saw. There’s far too many to mention, so just go and see Veronica Guerin when it opens in your country. Don Wycherley, Darragh Kelley, Colin Farrell, Paul Ronan… There are probably more but I wouldn’t know them. Someone like Thea will catch them all! It’s a very good film too, far better than the woeful When The Sky Falls from a few years ago which was on the same subject.

Here's a link to the trailer for that movie - didn't spot Colin Farrell, though...

If you go to the film's official site there's a small picture of Colin Farrell. By the way, he probably has the most pointless cameo I've ever seen in a film. I've just read the synopsis on that site too.

"In the mid 1990's Dublin was nothing short of a war zone, with a few powerful drug lords battling for control. Their most fearsome opponent was not the police but the courageous journalist Veronica Guerin."

I don't know whether to be outraged or laugh!

EX-girlfriend? Man that's a hell of a souvenir from an old affair. What about the child's life?
I certainly don't miss the Victorianism and hypocrisy I was raised with, but such a cavalier attitude toward bringing a child into the world is not admirable.

Can a woman not tell this idiot "no"? I guess his sister is just going along with it for the sake of the kid. If you miss your child's birth (by choice), why show up for the rest of his life? Do the kid a favor and stay away!
GRRRRRR.

I was watching a repeated series this evening called Country Parish, and the end credits said it was narrated by Dervla. I didn't recognise her voice, I shall have to listen more carefully next time.

This will be dated, but I don't think anyones mentioned James Nesbitt in the British series "Playing the Field". He has a fairly large role as coach of the women's soccer team. Also, a very obscure sighting of Susanahh Doyle in an episode of 'Maigret'(whose star, incidentally, Michael Gambon, was born in Dublin.)

i watched that Country Parish show when it was on first time round. Dervla was doing an English accent (don't know why!) so her voice wasn't quite so recognisable.

The show was about a 'trendy' young city priest going to work in a rural parish. deja vu, anyone?

I hope this link will work. It is concerning the Tony Doyle bursury(SP) award and has a really good picture of Tina Kellegher and some of the Ballyk alumni.

so is Sean Kearns (officer McMullen)and Pauline McLynn (Mrs. Mooney).... just for reference. I also was looking at the APT site for contract dates for Ballykissangel. It seems that all series contracts have been renewed through 2005! All you PBS viewers out there, it's time to bombard your stations with emails and phone calls!

I was watching two films the other day. One of them was "This Is My Father", the other was "About a Boy". They were both very good. "This is my father" didn't have any alumni the I could see. It was still a very good movie. About a Boy was wonderful, too. I just thought that I would mention them as potential candidates if amyone was looking for something to watch.

Glad the contracts for the show are back in force, but I doubt our PBS station will be airing it now that they're cutting back from two stations to one.

Someone might've already posted this, but I spotted the actor who played Sean Dillon on an episode of MI-5 recently (that British spy/thriller series that's showing on American A&E tv). I think it was episode 6 of the first series, and he played an Irish terrorist. I could be wrong about this, but the guy really looked like him. Can anybody confirm this?

I think it's called Spooks in the UK cause I remember him been in that about a year ago and it seems like the same storyline but I didn't really watch it properly so I may be totally wrong.

I caught about 30 minutes of MI-5 early this morning (around 2 am), the ep with Lorcan Cranitch (sp) in it. It was very interesting, looks like something I would watch, although I was a bit suprised when LC and the really yummy agent stripped down to their birthday suits in the middle of a field!

Yeah - I think it is called Spooks in the UK. I don't know why they changed the name (though I don't understand the title of Spooks, anyway....what does it mean? --hence, the reason I guess they wouldn't name it Spooks in the US, lol...)

It does look like a good show - in fact, they're having a Labor Day Marathon of all 6 episodes (1st season) on the A&E channel. The show reminds me a bit of 24 (which I adore!!)

Isn't "Spooks" a slang expression for "Spies"? And if an alternate title is MI-5, I'm guessing it's something about the intelligence gathering community...

I have heard CIA agents called "spooks" before, but yeah, that other definition is certainly a good reason to change the name of the series.

Has anyone besides me seen the movie "Evelyn"? OK, OK, I admit it - I rented it because it starred Pierce Brosnan... It's the story (true) of a separated family in Ireland - mom split with another man, children split up between church-run foster homes, father not able to get them back. The dad brings suit against the government to have his children returned to him. It had a positive ending and could have been an enjoyable movie, but the acting was a bit tepid. And I didn't get the casting of Juliana Margulies as a Dublin barmaid.

Anyway, to get to the 'alumni' point - I spied Bosco Hogan as a priest, a Father O'Malley, I believe. Then, there was a wicked nun, Sister Brigid, who I could've sworn I'd seen somewhere - checked it out through IMDB, and lo and behold, it was Frances, from Series 1 ("We are not travelers!")

Marcie, I shall keep an eye out for "Evelyn". (By the way, has anyone tried the dvd rental by post companies? We're thinking of giving it a try.)

It's not his hair so much as those eyes. I always thought James Nesbitt would make a good Satan. Doesn't that photo make him look more than a bit demonic?

Speaking of Assumpta, I just found this interview with DK from Tuesday 20 November 2001 on BBC Radio 4:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/19_11_01/listen_index.shtml

You need RealOne Player to be able to listen to it, which you can get via:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/help/

Apologies if you've heard it already.
