Hey, that's the book from which we got the poem that was read at our wedding, by Laura's sister Linda! Laura can tell you how she came to the book. I suppose it would be too much of a coincidence to suppose that one of the poems Stephen reads is "The Confirmation" by Edwin Muir? THE CONFIRMATION Yes, yours, my love, is the right human face. No Brian, "The Confirmation" was read by Emilia Fox. It is indeed lovely, and I think would have been a good choice for Stephen Tompkinson. He read "The More Loving One", "Talking in Bed", & "Ending". Rupert Penry Jones reads "Marriage Morning" another favorite. IP: Logged |

I am happy to confirm that Brian does indeed make the whole world bright. Well, my world, anyway! I found this book while I was browsing idly in a bookshop one day, and the poem just jumped out at me. I'm not even sure why I was looking at a book of poetry, because although I loved poetry as a child, Grammar school cured me of it entirely - we studied some pretty bad poems! But The Confirmation was just perfect for the occasion. So as well as making our (two) wedding cakes, and transporting them intact from Cornwall to Hampshire, my sister had to stand up in front of a church full of people and read, and she did a lovely job.IP: Logged |

Dang, we missed it! Laura and I had just finished watching an episode of "Cadfael" and were flipping around the channels when we saw Stephen in a modern adaptation of "The Taming of the Shrew" BBC1, it had already been on for half an hour. We shall hope for a repeat. It stars Shirley Henderson, Isobel from "Hamish Macbeth. http://www.radiotimes.com/ListingsServlet?event=10&channelId=94&programmeId=35905524&jspLocation=/jsp/prog_details.jsp IP: Logged |

I saw it. ST played a manager who was totally besotted by his glamorous fashion model boss. She, of course, never even gave him a second look and cruelly fired him when he wasn't necessary any more. ST does a very good "drinking himself into a coma" scene. Plus, he then had the hangover from hell and looked truly wretched. It was very good and quite funny. Shirley Henderson and Rufus Sewell were a laugh; each one equally as insane as the other. The website for The Taming of the Shrew is here. The other Shakespeare re-told dramas have been excellent too with Much Ado About Nothing being funny and Macbeth being creepy and dark. I see that James Nesbitt is appearing at Trafalgar Studios One in London in "Shoot the Crow." Apparently it's not for the easily offended. Sounds like my kind of show. Anyone seeing it? --Amy IP: Logged |

Mr Tompkinson in The Afternoon Play today on BBC Radio 4. And the female lead's name is Jenny! http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/afternoonplay.shtml It's called "Nothing Happened". I need to listen to the first part, flipped on the radio while I was washing the chili pot from yesterday and there was that voice. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the tip-off! God bless the internet. I was able to listen to it here in NO. Unlike so many radio play actors, ST sounds believable. Do you know if this is current, or does the BBC go back into its vaults for these things? (I love his accent, which I'm guessing was toned down for Ballyk b/c this is what he's sounded like in most of the other things I've seen him in.) ---

I enjoyed it, too. I've not yet seen a role ST play that I didn't buy into fully, which is probably why I go to great lengths, and sometimes expense, to search them out! That said, Rufus Sewell dressing up like Dr. Frank N. Furter would have on its own made the viewing worth it. ;)

News of Colin Farrell http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4523738.stm I think this is the first article I have read about him that mentions Ballykissangel.(Not that I seek out articles about him, I would have to say). IP: Logged |

I was in the home page of Digital spy and this sprung out at me. It also reports that Colin Farrel denies the reports that he took a drug overdose. Anyway this is the article that I found interesting about Stephen going into directing IP: Logged |

For those in the UK and Ireland, I saw an ad on ITV this evening. It was for a new drama series called Wild At Heart staring Stephen Tompkinson. Apparently, he’s a vet in some wildlife park in Africa. From what I could gather, he’s a married man with a family and it’s all about living this new life away from England. It’s going to be on ITV next Sunday at 8pm. IP: Logged |

Ooooh.. sounds interesting. Is it going to be a long running series, or like a mini-series? That doesn't make much sense, but I can't think of another way to phrase it. Also, I'm sure you all knew this question was coming: is anyone going to tape it? P.S. TOTALLY off topic, I know, but do any of you in the UK have any of Gina McKee's tv work? She did a movie for Granada called The Baby War, that I cannot find for love nor money. (I know, double negative..) I hear she's also done a lot of commercials there. If anyone has anything I can add to my collection, please e-mail me. I'd be eternally grateful [This message has been edited by lavenderlewis (edited 23-01-2006).] IP: Logged |

Is anyone a member of UKNOVA? If some kind soul in the UK or Ireland could upload "Wild at Heart" to the server, I could download it. I would be happy to share. Lavender if you join UKNova you can request Gina's work and maybe some kind soul will provide it. This is not a commercial, but I do love the UKNOVA site, I've found lots of interesting things. I read that he plays a widower and his teenage daughter is less than chuffed about going to Africa. I think it's six 60-minute episodes and they're starting filming the second series in March. Stephen said he took his family while they shot it. His daughter was getting blase about giraffes and cheetahs hanging around.

GatorGal – how do you upload stuff? I can’t tape it because I don’t have a video recorder anymore. It died sometime in November after chewing up a tape of some very important, nay, crucial match and it was NOT my fault. Anyway, I’ve been meaning to get a DVD recorder so maybe this will be the catalyst.[This message has been edited by Bronn (edited 23-01-2006).] IP: Logged |

Bronn, I don't know how you upload to UKNOVA. I'm an American and I can't upload . Once you become a member(this takes several attempts) they have a technical forum that will give you all the particulars. IP: Logged |

Hey, guys, I just checked in to see what new alumni news there was, and what do I find reported but a treasure trove! A show starring ST, as a VET, in AFRICA. I admit, I love shows about veterinarians. (Anyone remember that US show from the 60's, Daktari? We all remember "All Creatures Great and Small, I know.) Sadly, this show is going to air on a channel I don't even recognize, let alone recieve, ITV. For this poor benighted American, can someone explain what country ITV is broadcast in, and whether shows on ITV ever show up on BBC America, so that I might have some small chance of seeing it, some day? TIA, whoever can help! IP: Logged |

ITV is one of our main (UK) Channels. Generally speaking there are 5 main terrestrial channels which everyone recieves BBC1 BBC2 ITV Channel 4 Channel 5 (only started ssometimes in the mid 90's) as aesop said its a commercial channel, we are lucky enough to have 2 whole channels (BBC 1 and 2) which have no adverts (commercials) on them ever. Fantastic. I'm surprised you don't get stuff from ITV over your way, Although on second thoughts its is more grounded in light entertainment, quiz shows, family viewing and soaps than the BBC which offers more expensively produced costume dramas and comedies etc. IP: Logged |

http://www.imdb.com/company/co0042582/ A good number of things made it across the ocean, I believe. Looking down the list, "Marple", "Poirot", "Hornblower", "Jeeves and Wooster". Also, you might recognise the regional company names, Granada, Carlton, etc, from program credits. "Brideshead Revisited" was Granada, I think. IP: Logged |
