James Nesbitt (Leo) has done a TV ad for Yellow Pages which is quite funny, he delivers the lines beautifully. "A bunch of lay-dees..." http://www.yellgroup.com/pages/advertisingtranscripts-advertisingtranscriptyoga

Vicky, have you watched ST on Call my Bluff yet? I just happened to switch on as they were introducing the guests at the beginning (I didn't even realise C My B was still being made). It made my day and he was his usual entertaining self.

For anyone interested...

Starz channels are showing some Irish films last month and this...

Among them are "the Magdalene Sisters"
and I just got finished watching "the Snapper"

When I remember the others, I'll fill in the blanks.

Big Toe is again running ST's reading of "Point Blanc" by Anthony Horowitz:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/bigtoe/books/

I really enjoyed this reading the first time around. Don't let the fact that it's aimed at younger audiences turn you off. Horowitz has crafted a wonderful tale and ST really brings it to life.

Ellie. I finally got around to watching it. He was definetly entertaining lol. I didn't think it was still been made either. And it used to be on in the middle of the day during the week. not on a Sunday.
I guess they stopped it for a while then started it up again with a different host.

Watching a great PBS show about the German occupation of the channel islands, I saw a familiar face. Couldn't place him at first, then I realized it was Owen Teale, the actor who played Conor Devlin, Orla's suitor.

Owen Teale also turned up on Midsomer Murders on ITV last Sunday night.

Yeah, I'm supposed to be working, but my BBC7 newsletter just popped in my inbox. They'll be airing the original pilot for "The Big Town All-Stars" next Wednesday at 8am, 10.30pm and 4am. You should be able to pick it up on Listen Again as well.

Robert Taylor is supposed to play a role. It is showing in the US in May sometime on NBC. Can't find any pics of him though.

The BBC has just started advertising 'Casanova' which will be shown 'soon' (probably in the next few weeks) on BBC3 (digital) and a bit later on terrestrial BBC in the UK. It features Dervla Kirwan in a relatively small role and her partner Rupert Penry Jones in a fairly big role. And also Peter O'Toole, so it's bound to be worth watching :-).

yep I've seen it , its good, to be honest its practically the same as the magdelene sisters, TK is suitably sadistic and twisted in a similar role to Geraldine McEwans the the mag..sisters.

Oh, I wish I could see those Shakespearean adaptations, Taming of the Shrew and Midsummer Night's Dream are two of my all-time favorites. In fact, I think one of the Puck's most-quoted lines *perfectly* describes the photo-story that TechieChick posted a link to! "Lord, what fools these mortals be!" Thanks, TC, I just now got a chance to click on that link and I will be laughing for a LOOOOONG time about that, although I am sure it was not funny at the time, and I do sincerely hope nobody was injured in all that string of disasters!

The pictures of the car being towed out of the water by a tow truck, which then also falls in the water are true. The last bit where yet another tow truck also falls in is a bit of creative Photoshopping. The full story is on Snopes.com (a site that confirms or disputes internet rumors):
http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/crane.asp

Sorry to rain on the fun. (But the first part of the story, which is true, is amazing enough even without embellishment!)

And, this even happened in Ireland, so isn't even that far OT!

Last night on BBCA saw "Jenny Clarke", Peter's old parishoner on a mini-series called "The Long Firm". She had long blond tresses and played the sluttish girlfriend of a two-bit nightclub owner. Quite a change from our done-by-wrong Jenny.

I forgot to mention last week that 55 degrees north was back on last week on a Sunday night at 8pm. It was nice seeing Dervla in the spot that Ballykissangel used to be in.
And I haven't watched it yet but in the Radiotimes it was listed that Stephen Tompkinson was in The Last Detective. Once I get a round to watching it I'll tell you if he was in it and what he was like.

While watching the "Remains of the Day" with Emma Thompson & Anthony Hopkins (plus the late Christopher Reeve) who should pop up in a small role as a housemaid named Lizzie but Peter's Jenny Clarke.

While watching "Beyond The Sea" dvd, loosely based on Bobby Darin's life with Kevin Spacey, who should appear but Gary Whelan (Brendan) playing the owner of the Copacabana nightclub. Had added a few pounds & lots of lovely white hair but looking a treat!

I usually enjoy anything w/Vanessa Redgrave. This was not an exception although I thought the ending a little lame. Surely, if you remember the young Clarissa you must recall her dark-haired friend with whom she shared a few embraces & kisses. That was Lena/Jenny.

I saw a British TV magazine at my local bookstore and there was a full page ad for Drop the Dead Donkey, which supposedly was released 27th July?

The ad said it had an interview with ST. Must save my pennies and order from amazon UK...

Julie, I too saw the advertisement for "The Drop the Dead Donkey" DVD. I'd love to have it (and others with ST), but how am I going to watch on Region 1 DVD players? All Suggestions appreciated.

Go to Best Buy, where for $40 you can get yourself a region-free player! Well, it's a PAL/NTSC player. But there's a code you enter with the remote to make it region-free. Or you can find a free hack on the web to strip DVDs of all their crap--region encoding, copy protection, PAL/NTSC etc., and make your own copies that will play in a region 1 player. So those region 2s can be yours!

Just returned from Best Buy & Circuit City, they tell me they don't sell multi-region DVD players. They were not encouraging that I can find one in the US. I really can't believe that. I can't be the only person who wants to watch British DVD's.
Amy, do you happen to know the brand or model you had in mind?

I'm new to the forum and perhaps I should be discussing this on another thread. Please advise!
