Episode 9 - A Life of Grime

‘Look up principles and you’ll read, ethics, philosophy, morality. Not skiving off work to piss about in court for a few hours.’

While Dunbar faces a financial crisis, Gulliver gets a visit from his dad, and learns he’s become his own man.

Dunbar finally has his day in court, unfortunately it’s family court and he’s in trouble for not making sufficient maintenance payments to his ex-wife. No amount of mitigation is going to be able to get him out of this one and to make matters worse, his wife’s new partner, Superintendent Jackson is outside court waiting to gloat.

However, Dunbar gets his own back when he defends a student who’s in trouble for calling a couple of policemen “wankers”. Dunbar attempts to find out whether the term “wanker” is a slur against the officers or a statement of fact.

Gulliver has an unwanted family matter to resolve too. His father is coming to visit and he couldn’t have picked a worse time.

Gulliver is feeling weighed down by the relentlessness of the job and his father’s presence - along with a job offer at a corporate law firm run by his dad’s friend - does little to lighten Gulliver’s mood.

After a string of interviews with thankless clients, Gulliver meets drug dealer Tony Waters. Tony’s slightly different from your average scrote and he surprises Gulliver by having a bit of intelligence and understanding of the world. In fact, Tony makes Gulliver question his own part in the system and gives him the courage to stand up to his father.
