As the new trainee in the criminal law firm
of Bagnall & Dunbar,
Theodore Gulliver discovers he has a lot to learn. Unfortunately
for him, Bruce Dunbar is the man who’s going to teach
him.
Thieves, blaggers and liars are the people who make the
world of Magistrates’ Courts go around. Trouble is, you’d
be hard pressed to know which ones are the criminals and which
ones are the lawyers. This is the lesson Theodore Gulliver
must learn as he begins his training as a duty brief at the
criminal defence firm of Bagnall & Dunbar.
His mentor is
Bruce Dunbar. A hardened pro in the art of getting people off,
whatever the cost. To him, Principles are where
you buy your knickers when Marks & Spencer are closed.
This is not what Gulliver was taught at law school, but as
he negotiates the world of policemen looking for promotion
and juveniles that nobody knows what to do with, it becomes
clear to him that he needs to learn a whole new set of rules.
Seeing Dunbar in action is quite something. He can run rings
around coppers and criminals alike and leaves even the sharpest
CPS lawyer, Sarah Beckenham fuming with frustration at the
way in which he works the system, and beats it every time.
Bruce Dunbar may have no social graces and a first class degree
in misanthropy, but there’s no better defence solicitor
around.
