INT. MAGISTRATES COURT - FAMILY COURT - DAY 1 Come up on DUNBAR who is offering up mitigation in his usual glib tone.

	DUNBAR
	[May I point out my client] has been under tremendous emotional strain over the past few months, due to the untimely death of his long-term partner. Furthermore he has recently become the sole support for his new partner, who needs round-the-clock care and attention.

	LADY MAGISTRATE
	Did you get that one off the back of a cornflake box Mr. Dunbar?

DUNBAR looks sheepish.

	LADY MAGISTRATE (CONT)
	You might be in your domain but you are most definitely on my patch.

We pull back to see DUNBAR is in fact the one on trial and this is family court.

	LADY MAGISTRATE (CONT)
	And in the family court the rules are quite different.

	DUNBAR
	Look ma'am, you have to consider….

	LADY MAGISTRATE
	I don't have to consider anything Mr. Dunbar. You, on the other hand, have to consider the following: You are in breech of a court order made in regard to regular maintenance payments for your daughter Laura Emma Dunbar. According to your ex-wife, payments have not been made for six months. There is also a question as to whether you declared the full extent of your income during the period you were married.

	DUNBAR
	What? I…

	LADY MAGISTRATE
	No more well rehearsed mitigation Mr. Dunbar. All I want to hear from you is how you intend to pay it back?

	DUNBAR
	Three TWOCKINGs, two DTTOs and an unpaid license fee should take care of it ma'am.
